Amanda Bossard, fresh out of Anchorage High School 1992 began her studies in marine biology. Bossard began her commercial seafood career in 1999, after she started working aboard the vessel F/V Sunset. The 65' schooner that was converted into an ice-fish tender was operated by Murat Aritan. He has been a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard is married to Aritan. The couple has come together and have claimed their respective industries. Both are advocates of conserving renewable and sustainable sources of seafood. Otolith was established by Philadelphia through Bella Bossard, now mom to two boys with ages of 3 and 1 Bossard. Otolith's name is an affectionate reference to Bossard's extensive experience with fish biology as well as her husband's extensive connections in the business of fishing. The two are frequently separated for up to 5 months each time they work towards objectives in the areas of environmental and financial that show their determination and autonomy wherever they are. Since July of 2016, Bossard as well as her daughters Isabella age 12 and Andre age 10 Andre aged 10 returned to Southeast Alaska annually each summer as deckhands during the wild salmon harvest in summer. In a small 42 salmon troller using hooks and lines for catching their desired salmon, they are joined by Aritan during two consecutive months of selling to local processors.
